Common complaints about real estate agents

On Behalf of Clapp, Peterson, Tiemessen, Thorsness LLC | Feb 22, 2022 | Licensure Defense |

When a complaint is brought against a real estate agent, it can cause worries about their future and career. For that reason, real estate agents should be familiar with the most common complaints made against real estate agents and how they can protect themselves.

Three common complaints

There are many types of complaints against real estate agents. Three of the most common types are:

  • Not telling the truth: A real estate agent may be accused of using bait and switch tactics and other tricks. It is a good idea avoid posting listings that are no longer available, to be prepared with the basic facts of a listing, to share the pros and cons of multiple listings and to build strong relationships with clients. It may also be a good idea to work for a reputable brokerage.
  • Lacking initiative: A real estate agent may be accused of not working hard enough on behalf of the client. It can be a good idea for real estate agents to demonstrate that they are taking initiative on behalf of their clients.
  • Communication problems: A real estate agent may be accused of not being available or poorly communicating. Real estate agents should maintain good communication and especially be available during important times in the life of a real estate deal.

Real estate agents may face accusations of real estate malpractice or face licensing problems or litigation against them. For that reason, professional liability protection for real estate agents can be important and may be able to help them with real estate malpractice defense, insurance defense and litigation concerns that they should be familiar with.
